Death of Mr. John Soden

After an illness of a somewhat short duration , the death occurred on Friday, rather unexpectedly of Mr. John Soden, merchant, Curraghoe, Lavey Strand, brother of Mr. Peter Soden, Dublin,former Chairman of Cavan County Council.

Deceased was a very popular president  and his funeral from Lower Lavey Church on Saturday  to the adjoining cemetery  was of unusually large dimensions. Rev. Father Shiels, P.P. officiated.

Regretted Death 

Miss Mary Soden, who died at her home , 54 St. Pappins Road, Glasnevin, Dublin was the eldest daughter of Mrs. Soden and  the late Mr. Peter Soden,  formerly of Main Street, Cavan. The family  retired from business  in Cavan some years ago  and went to reside in Dublin. They were extremely popular with everyone and  there is general sympathy  with the mother,  brothers and sisters  of the deceased in their bereavement. The funeral took place to Killygarry Cemetery  on Tuesday following Requiem Mass  in St. Pappin?s Church Dublin. The Rev. P.J. Gargan C.C. officiated at the graveside.

The family of the late Joseph Soden, Virginia, Co. Cavan wish to thank sincerely all those who sympathised with them in their recent sad bereavement; those who attended the removal, Mass and funeral  and sent Mass cards, letters and 

telegrams. A special word of thanks to the  priests, neighbours, relatives and friends. The Holy Sacrifice of the Mass has been offered for the intentions of all.

Death of Mr. Seamus Soden

The death occurred at Elm Park Hospital, Dublin on Sunday last of Mr. Seamus (James) Soden, Eden Park Avenue, Dundrum and late of Main Street, Cavan. He was 67 and prior to his retirement had been employed as a representative with the Dublin wine importing firm, Fitzgeralds of Westmoreland Street. .

The family were well-known in Cavan and for many years had a drapery business in Main Street. Seamus’ father, the late Peter Soden , was a former Chairman of the Cavan Board of Health and Cavan County Council, and was also a member of the Urban Council. The family moved to Dublin in the fifties.

Seamus Soden was a member of Cavan tennis club and took part in most of the sporting organisations in the town.

He is survived by his wife, Rose; sons, Felix and Peter and daughter, Marie; brother Peter and sister, Nora.

The funeral took place on Wednesday from Holy Cross church, Dundrum to Shanganagh cemetery, Shankill.

Nora (peacefully) after an illness borne with great courage in the loving and gentle care of the staff in St. Francis Hospice, Raheny, treasured  and greatly missed by her sister-in-law, Alice, loving nieces, nephews, their families, relatives, good friends and neighbours.

R.I.P.

Funeral Mass tomorrow (Friday) after 10 o’c Mass to Killygarry Cemetery, Cavan. Family flowers only, donatiions if desired to St. Francis Hospice, Raheny.
