| Updates to the Soden Family Website – https://thesodenstory.com – for August 2026 1. I am indebted to Marina Spenner Soden , a member of the Baltimore Soden Family. Glenn Soden of Columbus, Ohio first made mention of this group and I am so delighted to have finally contacted them and we so look forward to an in depth account of their origins and links . Soden Family Drowning Tragedy 1818 I have been informed by Andrew Kingdon, a conservation officer and journalist in Nova Scotia, of a dreadful tragedy which occurred near the town of Blanche, Nova Scotia with the sinking of the immigrant ship ‘Mary Ann’ with the loss of 122 lives. Amongst these was a Soden family of 8 people, a mother, 5 daughters and 2 sons. An account of the event was written by one Charles Kellett of Virginia, Cavan. We will have more on this certainly in the coming months. Australian Sodens Roslyn MacCarthy Soden has submitted to us a fine concise summary of her Soden branch, which originated with Robert Dawson Soden in Virginia, Co.
